Beautiful early Ball Mason 1/2-gallon fruit jar in gorgeous aqua/blue-green glass, complete with its vintage zinc screw-on lid and white glass/porcelain liner.
This is the kind of old utilitarian glass I absolutely love—the irregularities tell the story.
The jar features the early Ball script logo over “MASON,” along with wonderfully pronounced sloped shoulders and a ground mouth, characteristics associated with early shoulder-seal fruit jars.
The glass has fantastic antique character throughout, including wavy, slightly distorted glass, bubbles, ripples and manufacturing irregularities that catch the light beautifully. Rather than the perfectly uniform appearance of later machine-made glass, this jar has that unmistakable early handmade feel.
The base is especially interesting, showing a circular manufacturing mark along with additional irregularities and bubbles in the glass.
The original-style zinc lid has an aged, naturally patinated surface and retains its white glass/porcelain liner.
Condition is very nice for its age, with expected manufacturing irregularities and age-related wear. The ground rim naturally has the rough texture associated with this type of early jar. Please view all photographs closely as they are part of the description.
